Brothers, Sisters, and Cousins. Oh my!

Categories: Portrait Work

If I’m not mistaken, this photo went out as the family’s holiday card last year. I love it! It makes me laugh every time I see it. There’s that old cliche that a picture is worth a thousand words. I think anyone who has ever had a two year old sees this and thinks, “Yeah, that looks about right!”

Now before I get too far ahead of myself, these kids aren’t all siblings. This session was actually for two sisters, each who live here in San Francisco with their families. The younger kids all go to school together so they see each other often. These two cousins are lucky to be so close:

The moms didn’t want to be in front of the camera this time but one of these days we’ll have to get a shot of them together. Even so, we of course wanted to make sure we had each family of kids separately too. The older kids were awesome to work with. You can tell they know how to have fun with each other:

And something about this one I just keep coming back to:

It might be that I have my own two kids now and I know it’s such a great feeling when you catch them being sweet to each other. Or maybe it’s because I see just about the same age difference between myself and my little brother. Whatever the reason, it shows their relationship and that is, in a nutshell, my singular focus. Family photography, to me, is about seeing the bonds between people. And on that note, I’ll leave you with this big brother-little sister.

Until next time!
