And unscathed even. The trip was remarkably uneventful and the jetlag was short. We are loving our new neighborhood and awaiting some furniture and a dish or two. Not that the floor picnics are all that bad. But baby girl was a little confused when she didn’t see anywhere to sleep. A few minutes later I heard her calling from the closet, “Hey, I found my bed!”

In the meantime, we thought we’d see the city and let the girls choose the first Saturday’s adventures. They wanted to see the sea lions so I insisted on soup in the sourdough bowl. Pier 39 was a definite success.

I have an awesome market just a short block away and enough restaurants to keep us busy trying new food through 2012 and beyond! Definitely happy with the new life. The only thing that could make it better is some internet. We’re looking forward to Wednesday for that. After that it’s just passing the California driver’s test and we’ll be real live residents. Fingers crossed!

Do you make your own luck? http://www.kimberlymitchellphotography.com/2011/kimberly-mitchell/do-you-make-your-own-luck-2/ http://www.kimberlymitchellphotography.com/2011/kimberly-mitchell/do-you-make-your-own-luck-2/#comments Tue, 12 Jul 2011 04:02:22 +0000 Kimberly http://www.kimberlymitchellphotography.com/?p=1315 This weekend was a good one. On Friday night, I was given a car to use for my last few days on Okinawa. On Saturday morning, I awoke to the news that we got the house we wanted in San Francisco and on Sunday, we learned that we wouldn’t have to move to a different hotel after all because this one did have availability for our entire stay. Such good luck!

Then I got to thinking… what does that mean? What is luck? Is it just random chance? Being in the right place at the right time? Or, is it a result of your own hard work and persistence?

I love the idea of The Secret and the power of positive thinking. I’m sure that my complete incomprehension of the word “no” might help me along. But what if your “luck” goes the other direction? If you make the good stuff happen, does that mean you make the bad stuff happen as well?

Some would probably call me an over-thinker. Personally, that word seems to be an oxymoron. How could I think TOO MUCH??? I will admit though, that when I get going on one of these brain teasers I’m pretty obsessive. So, while I’ll continue trying to make sense of the world, my conclusion is this: It seems like there just must be some sort of chance involved. But just as important is setting a realistic yet lofty goal, expecting that you deserve it, working hard toward getting it, and jumping over hurdles no matter how high they seem. At least that’s what I think about it today. What do you think?

Fresh start http://www.kimberlymitchellphotography.com/2011/kimberly-mitchell/fresh-start/ http://www.kimberlymitchellphotography.com/2011/kimberly-mitchell/fresh-start/#comments Sat, 18 Jun 2011 19:17:11 +0000 Kimberly http://www.kimberlymitchellphotography.com/?p=1036 Well, here we go! I’m starting a new chapter in my life. We’re leaving Okinawa in just a few short weeks to settle down in sunny California. My goal: finding a place to live for longer than four years. That’s my current long-term record for the same address. At least since I left my parents’ house. Really, I used to get excited when I could start a second year without looking at a cardboard box!

Although the old blog is gone, I’ll be posting some of my favorite old sessions from Okinawa as we go along. And soon, I’ll get to add some new faces in the mix! Right after we find a home, job for the hubby, school for the big girl, nanny for the little girl, a great mexican restaurant and a sushi shop! Piece of cake.
